Joyce Mwaniki, DNP, PMHNP-BC
Dr. Mwaniki is a Board-Certified Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She graduated from the University of Alabama in Huntsville with a doctoral degree in nursing practice and from the University of Texas in Arlington with a master’s degree in psychiatric/mental health. She is trained to assess, diagnose & treat children, adolescents, and adults with mental and behavioral disorders.
She specializes in the treatment of depression, bipolar spectrum disorders, generalized anxiety, social anxiety, obsessive and compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), ADHD, insomnia, eating disorders, and addiction, among other mental health disorders.
She takes pride in being compassionate and a good listener who treats all patients with the dignity and respect that they deserve. She strives to create a nonjudgmental and empathetic atmosphere where patients can feel safe, understood, and listened to. She understands the need for a holistic approach to patient care and considers the interconnectedness of the body, mind, and spirit with the patient’s environment, social/cultural experience, and relationships when deciding on treatment plans. With over 7 years of experience in mental health, she has a background in both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric settings.
